Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to Northland Childspace.
We are located in windy Northland, with lush bush and wide spaces all around us.
We cater for children between 0 – 6 years.
We have a bright spacious teina (nursery) located upstairs, in which we have two teachers and up to eight children.
Our tuakana (2-6 years) is on the ground level, with three teachers and up to twenty-two children.
We have many siblings who attend, and our environment allows for them to visit one another in the two spaces.
However, this in not restricted to siblings, we invite and encourage all children to benefit from tuakana-teina relationships (learning from peers).
Our teaching team believe strongly in supporting children’s sense of belonging and wellbeing within the centre by fostering ongoing relationships between family, whānau and children.
Our team bring with them a range of passions and experiences, which they enjoy weaving into their daily programme and sharing their interests with the children.
We offer a diverse early childhood programme that includes a strong focus on art, gardening, excursions, sustainable practices, heuristic play, and self-directed play. Much of our inspiration comes from the work of Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber.
Our centre is made unique by its ‘Secret Garden’ which gives children an opportunity to connect with nature allowing them to respect and appreciate Papatūānuku.
We also have an extended bush land across the road, which we make very good use of. We are passionate about providing opportunities in which the children are able to explore their relationship with the natural world, including our prolific bird population.
Open from 7.30am-6.00pm Mon-Fri we offer full-time and part-time spaces for your family.
We endeavour to accommodate to your childcare needs to the best of our ability.
Meet our dedicated team of caring and professional specialists, who strive to provide the best possible service for you and your children.
I have completed my Bachelor of Education and I am currently studying towards my Masters of Education at Victoria University.
I am committed to creating positive change in our society through uplifting our youngest citizens. I have seen the limitless value of natural education and being in nature with children. Northland Childspace is my second home and I hope to help us create a welcoming and comfortable environment for tamariki.
I am open and honest in all situations within this incredibly understanding learning environment and I hope that everybody here can feel comfortable talking to me about anything. I learn and laugh every day when working and playing with children and I love spending my time in this beautiful space.
I have come to Early Childhood Education later in life, choosing this career after my two beautiful children Marcus and Sophia (9 and 10) started school. I have never stopped playing and am still waiting to grow up.
I am passionate about education and care in the early years, and chose this profession because of my belief in the importance of high quality care at this age. Northland Childspace is a special place and I am proud to be a part of the amazing team we have here.
I love designing and building outdoor environments, promoting a connection with the natural world and facilitating real world experiences such as baking and gardening.
I am all about ‘peeling off the bubble wrap!’ I look forward to laughing, learning and playing.
I have my level 5 certificate in Early Childhood Education and am currently in my second year of study at Victoria University, completing a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education.
I am one of eight siblings and have grown up babysitting much of my life. To expand my passion for working with and alongside young children I have joined the early childhood profession.
As a kaiako I believe each child is deserving of equitable opportunities to learn and grow in a loving environment where uniqueness is celebrated and children are empowered.
I am originally from Taranaki but have called Wellington home since 2002.
I enjoy heading home to Taranaki regularly to visit with whānau and explore nature. I have no children of my own yet but I have many nieces and nephews who keep me busy in my 'down time'.
I have been teaching professionally in Early Childhood settings since 2002. This has included a variety of centre based and home based care settings. I trained at Victoria University and obtained my Bachelor of Education ECE in 2008.
I have enjoyed exploring the RIE and Reggio Emilia philosophies of care and aim to include concepts from these in my own teaching practice. I look forward to being one of your Kaiako here at Childspace Northland, working alongside you all as I support your children as they learn, develop, work, grow and play here.
I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education in July 2019. I moved to Wellington from Whanganui to study a Bachelor of Science (BSc) at Victoria University of Wellington.
I completed my BSc with a major in Psychology in 2017. Throughout my psychology studies I was drawn to the child development side of the papers I took. I found it fascinating how much happens in such a short time span. My studies encouraged me to pursue a career as an early childhood teacher. This is because I want to be a part of this very important stage in life, early development.
To help children through this time, providing them with the care, support and skills they need for a foundation that supports lifelong learning. I will always be reflecting upon and refining my teaching practices however the foundation will always remain; which is to respect tamariki and empower them to be confident and competent learners.
I grew up in Ohakune and am now living and studying in Wellington. I am in my first year of study at Victoria University, studying a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).
I have previously studied Arts and Design through Massey University. I found my passion for working with children through various camps, after school care and nannying, since then I decided follow this career path and I haven’t looked back.
I am eager to learn and develop my knowledge, whilst sharing in the excitement and challenges of childcare and development. I am discovering myself as a teacher, and aim to create a safe and interesting environment where children can experience their world.
Kia ora e hoa. I am so very fortunate! Me and my whānau reside/own/manage/caretake a poly culture orchard in the Northern Kapiti region.
This means that we grow several different types of fruit. When asked "what do you grow", my not so obvious clever reply is "soil". We migrated the orchard from a conventional management system to now a fully certified BioGro (#5985) platform. Our intention is to move well beyond organics.
Each Thursday I commute here to teach/learn alongside your tamariki. Did I say that I am fortunate, I truly am.
Kia Ora, I am Demi, a member of Childspace Northland whānau. I feel very happy and honoured to work with you to provide sound caring and education for the best of our tamariki.
It is a fantastic experience for me to study, work and live in NZ and to be an ECE teacher is a big decision in my life. I worked as a designer in China but I found my passion working with children.
I appreciate the diversity of culture and lifestyle in NZ so I started a new life here and completed the Graduation Diploma in Early Childhood Education in New Zealand Tertiary College in 2019.
I am willing to share the wonderful parts of my culture with everyone and learn more about your cultures as well.
Kia ora, G’day, and Apa Khabar. I am from Penang, Malaysia, and lived in Perth, Western Australia for ten years before moving to Queenstown, New Zealand in 2018. I am a passionate, avid traveller, and see myself as a citizen of the world. I learn so much from different people, cultures, and countries. These experiences help me to strive to become a better person every day. I ran a yearly educational camp for tamariki in the Philippines, where I discover that I truly enjoyed teaching and empowering tamariki to believe in themselves. After working in the event industry for a few months, I decided to change my career and completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary). I believe that all tamariki are unique, competent, and have something special that they can contribute to their learning. I am a co-learner with them, searching for answers to their questions together. I also believe seeking knowledge is an ongoing journey, and we never stop learning. I am looking forward to being a kaiako at Childspace Northland, working alongside the team, tamariki, and whānau.
